Ministries


The Church of St. Mary offers many opportunities for involvement in parish life and the community at large. We invite you to participate in those groups in which you have expertise, interest, or both.

Pastoral Council
The Pastoral Council is comprised of parishioners who meet several times a year to serve as advisors to our Pastor.  The Council meets on the fourth Thursday of most months.  For information contact the Pastoral Council Chair, Joyce Klein at mba1997@msn.com.

Finance Council
Assists in preparation of the parish budget and financial reports.

Education Commission
Shares in the teaching mission of the Church by maintaining and expanding educational programming for the parish, especially through St. Mary’s school and the Religious Education program. Meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm in the Parish Activity Center.

Lay Ministry
Grief and bereavement, evangelization, adult education, Baptism preparation, senior citizens. Office located in the Parish Activity Center.

Welcome Ministry
Bi-annual breakfasts are held to welcome new parishioners into the parish.

Social Action Committee
Fosters concern and action for peace, justice, and human life in our own community and the world. Apostolic works—a portion of the general revenue of the parish is designated for charitable purposes.

Family Life Commission
Fosters Christian family life in the parish by sponsoring family-oriented activities.

Stewardship Commission
Encourages and supports parish community participation and growth.

St. Mary’s School Foundation
The Foundation administers the St. Mary’s Education Trust Fund which helps subsidize the cost of Catholic Education in the parish.

Hispanic Apostolate (Centro Cuerpo de Cristo)
Catholic ministry to the Hispanic community of DeKalb County. 815-758-1377.

Parent Teacher Organization
Parents supporting St. Mary’s School.

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)
The process for becoming Catholic, or for adults seeking complete initiation into the Church, is tailored to the individual adult’s calling and background. The process includes both formation in the Catholic Faith and celebration of the appropriate rites. Inquirers are always welcome. For those interested in becoming Roman Catholic or helping on the team, contact the Religious Education secretary at 815-895-3726 ext. 222.

Prayer Opportunities
(All groups meet in the Church) Our Lady of Fatima—Tuesdays, 8:00am. Eucharistic Adoration (24 Hour devotion) - Every Thursday 8:00am through Friday 8:00am. Pro Life Holy Hour is 1st and 3rd Thursday 3:00pm.

Youth Ministry
Junior High and High School groups meet regularly for socializing, learning and sharing. Retreats, service opportunities and summer mission trips offered. For more information, contact the Youth Ministry office at 815-895-3726, Ext. 224.
